Silos can be found everywhere in educational programs. Like farmers’ grain silos, they store and separate subjects, teachers, specialists and departments. If a conscious effort is not made to share the information they hold, silos can hold back change and Assistive Technology (AT) capacity building efforts. Collaboration and outreach enhance our AT program activities. This session will discuss specific strategies that educators can use to,open education’s silos, build AT capacity and create effective interfaces between school programs that impact student AT use.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to
- Describe two benefits and two disadvantages of working in a “siloed” program.
- List four strategies for doing effective cross-silo work.
- Identify a program or siloed part of their agency with which they want to share resources and make a plan to collaborate to increase capacity and accomplish goals.
