We all participate in IEP teams, classroom teams, eligibility and placement teams and specialized teams like AT teams. With so many teamwork opportunities, disagreements and, occasionally, conflict are inevitable and especially common in times of rapid change. Strategies introduced will include 1) differentiating disagreement from conflict; 2) identification of the elements of a crucial conversation; 3) self-assessment of reactions to conflict, and ; 4) ideas to help a team find common ground.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify two differences between disagreement and conflict.
- Participants will use self-assessment tools to identify their own communication style under stress and set one goal for improvement.
- Participants will be able to define three aspects of a crucial conversation and use the paradigm in their practice
- Participants will review strategies to initiate and conduct a difficult conversation
